The ’92 nutrients’ claim is technically defensible — but bioavailability depends entirely on how the leaf was dried. Here is what the literature shows.

The ’92 nutrients’ claim appears across virtually every moringa marketing page. It originates from a widely cited 2003 study and is technically defensible: Moringa oleifera leaves do contain a broad array of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and phytochemical compounds. The issue is not the count — it is what the count omits.
Nutrient concentration in a dried plant product is not the same as nutrient availability to a human body. Bioavailability — the fraction of an ingested nutrient that is actually absorbed and reaches systemic circulation — depends on the food matrix, the processing method, and the presence of anti-nutritional factors. For moringa, two of these factors are material: the presence of oxalates and the effect of drying temperature on specific vitamins.

Moringa leaf is typically processed in one of three ways: air-drying (also called shade-drying), drum-drying (industrial), or freeze-drying. Each method produces a powder with meaningfully different nutrient profiles.
Vitamin C: highly heat-sensitive; retained well in freeze-drying and air-drying below 40°C, significantly degraded in drum-drying
Glucosinolates / isothiocyanates: the bioactive compounds with the strongest evidence for anti-inflammatory and anti-tumour activity; degraded above 60°C
Iron: heat-stable, retained across all drying methods — but absorption in the gut is inhibited by co-consumed oxalates
Beta-carotene: stable to moderate heat, retained in most processing methods
Protein (27g per 100g in dried leaf): heat-stable and retained across methods, though amino acid digestibility varies with processing

What the isothiocyanate evidence actually shows
The strongest mechanistic evidence for moringa’s health effects centres on its glucosinolate-derived isothiocyanates — particularly moringin (4-[(α-L-rhamnosyloxy)benzyl] isothiocyanate). In cell and animal models, moringin has shown anti-inflammatory, anti-proliferative, and neuroprotective activity. Human clinical trials remain limited in scale and duration, but early data support a modest anti-inflammatory effect at doses of 3–5g of leaf powder daily.
